About
Dr. Robert L. Rom is a Swiss lawyer who has worked as an independent attorney and as senior legal counsel to multinational corporations in the financial, insurance, asset management and real estate sectors for over 20 years. In this capacity he was responsible for numerous high value cross border M&A transactions, joint ventures and financings. Simultaneously, Dr. Rom was in charge of litigation and arbitration in many jurisdictions. This included complex individual as well as group and class actions, some of which related to post-transactional issues. This dual experience has enabled him to obtain a thorough understanding of the issues and risks that may occur during the negotiation and execution of such transactions, as well as the post deal disputes that may follow them in litigation and arbitration procedures. Having served as in-house counsel to large institutions for many years, Robert has an insider’s understanding of corporate counsel and executives and their concerns and approaches.
Dr. Rom studied in Switzerland and the US. He is a member of the Swiss bar and holds a doctorate in Law from the University of Zurich and a Diploma in International Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London, to which he was admitted as a Fellow in 2017. He served as panelist on international conferences in the areas of M&A and litigation/arbitration and is active in several working groups in the field of international arbitration. Robert is a member of ASA, ICC, DIS, CEAC, CIArb, IBA and IPBA. He is part of the Arbitrator Pool of the Court of Arbitration for Art (CAfA) and on the List of Arbitrators of the Russian Arbitration Centre.
Dr. Rom is bilingual in German and English, fluent in French and Italian, has a solid knowledge of Hebrew and converses in Chinese (Mandarin, HSK).
